What is the Subsidy to full- time students?

This subsidy is offered by the Ministry for Gozo to Gozo residents who are following full-time courses in Malta.  The total amount offered for this subsidy is of €1,500 for an academic year which is paid from October till the following June

Who is eligible to the subsidy to full- time students?

Anyone whose main residence is in Gozo and who is following a full-time course in Malta which is not available in Gozo.  

 I am a Gozo resident and the full-time course that I am following in Malta is not at the University of Malta or MCAST. 

Am I still eligible to apply for the subsidy to full-time students?

Yes you are still eligible to apply if you following a full- time course in an institution other than University of Malta or MCAST provided that you meet all the other eligibility criteria.

Who is not eligible for the subsidy to full-time students?

 

  • Gozo residents who are following part-time courses in Malta
  • Gozo residents who are following full-time courses in Malta that are also being offered in Gozo
  • Anyone whose main residence is not in Gozo.

 

How can I apply for the subsidy to full-time students?

Applications for the subsidy to full-time students can be found online on www.mgozservices.gov.mt or by downloading the free app ‘MyGozo’ onto a smartphone or tablet.

 

What documents do I need to prepare before I apply?

A copy of the school leaving certificate from either a Secondary or Post- Secondary school in Gozo would need to attached to the online application.

 

What if I did not complete my secondary education in Gozo?

If you did not complete your secondary education in Gozo, you can attach any documentation  you may have to show where you completed your secondary/post secondary education.  The Ministry for Gozo will then make any necessary checking.

 

I am a Gozitan resident still following secondary education at a special school in Malta (which is why I am applying for this subsidy) and so do not have my school leaving certificate yet.  

In this case, kindly attach with your application a letter from the Head of the last school that you attended in Gozo, confirming that you attended this school.

 

What information do I need to fill in my application/What information is required to complete the application/What does the application include?

The following details will be requested when you apply:

  • Personal details
  • ID card Number
  • IBAN number
  • Formal Name of the Institution  you will be attending
  • Formal name of the faculty, if you are attending the University of Malta
  • Formal name of the Institute, if you are attending MCAST
  • The full title of the course you are following
  • The year of the course (if your course is spread over more than one year)
  • The Name, Position in the Institution and e-mail address of the person who will verify your application.  

 

 The system is not letting me apply as I am not yet 18 years old.  How can I apply for the subsidy for full time students?

If you are still under 18 years old, a parent or a legal guardian can apply on your behalf.  The online application includes a question specifying whether a parent or legal guardian is applying on behalf of a child or dependent person.  In this case, the ‘Yes’ option should be chosen and fields for the student’s details become available.

 

When do I apply?/During which period are applications open?

Applications for the subsidy to full time students are to be submitted at the start of EACH Academic year i.e. in September/October.

 

Is there a deadline for the application for the subsidy to full time students?

Applications for the subsidy to full time students should be submitted and verified by not later than the end of October of that academic year.

 

What happens once I submit my application?

Once an application is submitted, you will receive an e-mail that is automatically generated by the system, informing you that your application is pending verification.  This means that a link to the application has been sent to the person that you indicate in your application  to verify your application.  Once your application has been verified/rejected you will receive another notification.  The Ministry for Gozo will receive the same notification.  Once the application has been accepted by the Ministry for Gozo, you will receive another notification and the status of the application will change to ‘Subsidy to be issued’.  This means that the payment will be effected when it becomes due.

 

 What if my application is not accepted?

In some cases, where the eligibility criteria of the application are not met, the application will be declined.  In these cases you will receive a notification generated by the system and also an e-mail from the officer in charge of the SubsidiesOoffice at the Ministry for Gozo, explaining why your application has been declined.

 

 Why has my application remained ‘pending’?

In most cases this is because the person who is to verify your application has not yet done so.  It is suggested that you contact the person whom you listed to verify your application.   In other cases it could simply be a typo in the e-mail address that has been given in the application form.   Kindly check the application form to ensure that the email address of the person who will be verifying your application is correct.  If you realize that the e-mail address has been submitted incorrectly, kindly contact the officer in charge of Subsidies Office at the Ministry for Gozo on 22100265 or subsidies.mgoz@gov.mt 

 

When will I receive my subsidy for full time students?

The payment for the subsidy for full time students is made during the first week of the calendar month.  You should receive your first subsidy in November and then during the first week of each subsequent month till July.

 

How will I receive the subsidy for full time students?

You would receive the subsidy by direct credit in the account with the IBAN you provide in the application

 

I have decided to stop my studies/resign/ not continue/change my course.   How do I stop the subsidy?

In these cases kindly inform the Ministry for Gozo on 22100265 or subsidies.mgoz@gov.mt immediately.  You will no longer be eligible for the subsidy and any payment for which you are not entitled will need to be re-imbursed.
